Well, we've had a pretty busy weekend. Saturday we decided to drive to Savannah to a baby store to look at furniture. We had driven to this store once before but got hopelessly lost and by the time we got there they were closed. BOO. But yesterday they were having a grand opening sale so we decided to go and check it out. It was almost torturous because there was so many different furniture sets that we LOVED but they were crazy expensive. They were really high quality and beautiful but I can't justify spending $1100 on a crib. So needless to say I walked out rather bummed because there was lots of stuff I would love to have but it just wasn't in the budget. Well, there was a tent outside where they were having raffles and a silent auction. One of the silent auction pieces was a 3 piece set (crib and 2 different dressers). It was really nice and super high end. To make a long story short we were the first to bid and there was only 45 min left of the auction. The set retailed at almost $3000 and we bid $1000 and won! So, we got a really high end set that we never could have had otherwise. We love it and are super excited. I can't find any pictures online though so I'll post some this week when we actually have it in the house.
We decided last night that it would probably be smart of paint the room BEFORE we got crazy expensive furniture in the room so we went last night and agonized over paint before picking blue....just blue. Mind you this was our second attempt at buying paint. So today after church we picked up the rest of the supplies we need to paint and I set to work. One of the most annoying issues is whoever lived here before us has an insane amount of nail holes in the wall. In one ten foot wall I counted 58...just on one wall. So, it took a few hours to fill all of those and sand them down. Joe didn't want me up on on the ladder (or chair) doing the high stuff so I did everything from the top of the doors down and he did everything from the top of the doors up. This was his first experience painting but we made out ok. We did have to wrangle one cat and wipe her paws clean after she got in and walked through paint.

Well, I just got back from my interview and I think it went well. It was pretty informal as far as questions that they had, we really just talked about my portfolio and my work and they explained the job. They seemed to be really impressed with my portfolio which is a good things. They only thing I'm really nervous about is I did tell them I was pregnant. They didn't seem to think it would be a huge problem but who knows. I'm just waiting to hear from them now!
So, I've done a horrible job the last 2 weeks of updating, therefore I have lots to say! So here goes!
Baby Evenden Update
Things on this front are going quite well. I heard from my doctors last week (oh, I found a new doctor here in SC that I really like, YEAH!) and the results of my 3 hour glucose tests came back negative! So, I do NOT have gestational diabetes like they were thinking. One bonus of all of this is that I had cut sugar out of my diet as much as possible and I am still DOWN 15 lbs. through the pregnancy thus far. He is kicking like mad these days and at times I think he may be hosting dance parties in there. It's such an odd feeling knowing that there is something living in there, but cool none the less. Joe has been pretty excited now that he can feel it, somehow it makes it all much more real. We also ordered the bedding for the baby and love it. We've started looking at paint to finish the room and all that good stuff, but there are some issues with the house so we are holding off for now (more and that later).

Fun things we've done
So, we've actually been able to have some fun the last few weeks. Bruiser started obedience school this week and both Joe and I were able to go with him and it was fun (maybe that's just because I don't get out of the house near enough!). He was the most hyper dog in the group but he's smart and mastered his first 3 commands the first night. He did try and hump (maybe this isn't an appropriate blogging topic?) a rather proper schnauzer and it's owner freaked but oh well. He's getting fixed tomorrow so hopefully that solves that problem!
Friday Joe had a 1/2 day of school and came home and said that he had arranged for Bruiser to be boarded for the night and that we were going to have some fun. He found this place call Brooke's Bed and Biscuit and it was a little puppy resort! Bruiser got his own private room and got to play with lots of other dogs his size outside and in the inground swimming pool!

Needless to say, he had a great time! We took the night and went onto the island and got a room near the beach. We went down to the beach even though is was REALLY windy and overcast and just walked on the beach and sat for awhile. Then we went to dinner, played some putt putt and went to bed! We had breakfast in the morning and did a little shopping and then got our dog who we missed a lot (we know, we're pathetic!). We just kind of hung out the rest of the weekend.
Housing update
This continues to be an interesting situation! When we got here there was a notice on the mailbox saying that this house that we are renting has been seized for back taxes. This really was no surprise to us seeing as how SHADY the landlord is (you wouldn't believe the stories we could tell and have heard about this man) but none the less we did some research to make sure that we wouldn't be thrown out on our ear. The house goes to public action on the 6th of October and the owners then have a year and 1 day to recover the house before we could be asked to leave. Well, to make this story shorter, we love this house and would love to buy it. However the house next door is identical to this one, only it has many more upgrades. It is in pre-foreclosure and we picked up an info sheet on it the other day. The price has dropped A LOT and really was something we were interested in. So, we called the realtor today...She had a LOT to say about our shady landlord and it sounds like this house we are currently in could be foreclosed on soon as well which wouldn't be good for us. The tricky part is this...The house is in the landlord's wife's name, but we pay him rent. The kicker is they are going through a divorce! So, we don't even know if our money is going to the owner or not...oh so messy! So we are getting some advice from a lawyer and in the mean time hoping I get a job soon (more on this later as well) so we can proceed on trying to buy the house next door.
Job Updates
Joe's job continues to be going well. Some days he wants to strangle the kids, but I think he secretly loves it. He's learning to balance his time and trying not to obsess about having the perfect lesson plans and so forth.
As for me, I just recently started applying for some office type jobs. I have been unable to find anything graphic design related and have felt like I'm running into every possible wall with the office jobs. Well, we received this local magazine in the mail a few weeks ago and I was really impressed with it. It's very well done and really professional. So, today I sent the art director and email just telling her how impressed I was and that I was new to the area and a graphic designer. I included my resume and asked her to keep me in mind should they ever be hiring. Well, not 5 minutes after I sent the email she called me and asked to set up an interview!! How crazy, but I'm interviewing on Wednesday. Just praying this goes well. She of course doesn't know that I'm prego and I'm really hoping that's not too much of a turn off. Today feels like a pretty good day. I actually got up and got moving today and went and ran some errands...I navigated my way ok, and even found a shortcut home. It's the little things that are making me feel good these days. I also ordered the bedding for the baby! I found these pictures of a young Bruiser last night...
Today was actually a really good day, and one of the first times that I have been really positive about being here. We went down to the beach today with another couple who have just moved here from Maine. It was about 95 today so we thought it was the perfect day. It really was as the beach wasn't that crowded and the sun was shinning. We packed lunches and just hung on the beach. We quickly found that it was too hot to just sit on the beach so we ventured into the waters. The biggest surprise to me is how WARM the water is. Today the water temps were 85! So, needless to say we spent the entire afternoon out in the water jumping waves and laughing. At one point Karen and Robert got out to walk on the beach for awhile and Joe and I were still out about chest deep when about 50 yards out about 10 dolphins went swimming by! I've never seen anything like that before in my life! So, it was a good day and one that we hope to repeat throughout the fall!
I've been wondering all week what I should write about, and I've still got nothing. Life isn't all that interesting right now....I spend my days here at the house just kinda passing the time. For all my gusto last week about this being what I make of it, I haven't done so well. I haven't left the house much and it's hard to get motivated at all. But next week should be better. Joe and I are planning a trip to the beach tomorrow (without the dog!) and then I have my first doctors appt. here on Tuesday. It's close to the beach so I plan on going to the library on Monday and finding a book and then heading to the beach after my appt. on Tuesday. It has been nice having a phone, and I've put it to good use! I think a few people may even be getting sick of hearing from me!
The big excitement this week has been hurricane/tropical storm Hannah. Early in the week it was scheduled to make landfall right here in Hilton Head so everyone started making plans just in case. We went to Walmart Tuesday night and there was no bottled water to be found and a lot of the dry food was gone as well! Then Tuesday and Wednesday they started talking about evacuating us and the boards started going up on some of the windows! Joe ended up having a hurricane day yesterday which is really weird to us, instead of snow days we get hurricane days! But needless to say the only thing we got was a little rain! Today it's 95 and sunny!
Saturday evening we thought it would be a good idea to take Bruiser to the beach and officially make him a beach dog! I can't say that we'll take him back any time soon, and he for sure did not win the "best dog on the beach" award. Even though we made sure he had gone before we left, the second he stepped in the sand we decided that he needed to poop, and then did it again just as we were leaving. Thank goodness they had bad stations! You can only bring dogs on the beach after 5pm but the beach was still pretty packed at 7 when we got there due to the holiday weekend and great (if you like 95 everyday) weather. We loved digging in the sand and chasing things he just barked...a lot! At everyone and everything! He was terrified of the water though. Here are some pictures of our night.

I will start way back on August 15th. My brother and his girlfriend flew in from Colorado to spend some time with the family and to be there for my graduation. We really had a great long weekend, the best I can remember in awhile. This was the first that I got to meet Agnieszka (Angie for short - I hope I spelled that right), and I must say that I love her! She is from Polland and I was amazed by her English and how well she seems to fit with my brother. She seems to calm him down a bit. We kind of just hung out for a few days, laying by the pool, doing some shopping and the boys golfed a bit. Again, it was great. And Angie loved Bruiser, and he loved her as well, she even taught him to sit in all of 20 min (we have been working on this for oh, 5 months now!).

Then, that monday was my graduation. We all headed to Saginaw for the big event. It was actually really weird. At first I was kinda sad cause Joe wasn't there but, I had my whole family there and Sarah came too. The nicest thing about graduation was that they kept it nice and short, it was just about an hour long, and there were less graduates then there was at my high school graduation! My family cheered real loud when they called my name and they had Joe on the phone so he could hear it too. They do not do a graduation ceremony in Poland, so it was something new for Angie too. The hardest part of the whole night though was at the end I had to say my goodbyes to Sarah. That was hard as she is going through so much right now (check her blog out here), and I haven't had a friend like her before. I knew it would be hard for both of us, her being there going through so much, and me being in SC all alone wishing for my Sarah. So, we cried and said goodbye...hard. Then I had one more day to hang out with my family.

On Wednesday morning we all got up really early and went to breakfast around 7am. Chris and Angie were leaving that morning as were my mom and I. It again was hard to say goodbye to my dad, I don't see him tear up very often and it makes me sad! At that point I was excited to get moving though, and get my feet planted. I had been so sick of living out of my car and a laundry basket. So, we all said our goodbyes and my mom, Bruiser and I headed out. We had decided to drive straight through and try to beat Tropical Storm Fay to SC. It was a long day to say the least! It took us 16 hours and we took 4 really short breaks, to eat, get gas and let Bruiser out. I have to say I was worried about the dog but he was sooo good! He didn't really make a peep the entire trip! My mom kept offering to drive, but I was just itching to get there so she drove 2 hours and I drove 14! We finally got in around midnight and it was really good to see Joe and to see my cats! I was surprised by how nice our house is, and it was good to just be "home."
My mom and I spent the next few days just hanging out and checking out the area, and setting some things up around the house. I'm not sure what I would have done without her! We even went down to the beach one night and experienced the winds of Fay! On Sunday morning she left and that was really hard. It hit me that after she left I didn't know anyone and that I'd be spending most of my time alone while Joe was at work. I've never lived more than an hour or so away from my parents and even though at times we fight like crazy I still knew that this move changed a lot of things. So, we took her to the airport and I cried like a baby....for most of the day.
That brings us to this last week...It's been ok, but hard. Joe is gone all day and up until today we haven't had any cable, internet, and we don't get very good cell service at all here in our house, so my days have been really quiet and lonely. I'm trying to find things to do to keep myself busy, and more than anything it's shown me the need for me to find a job! I need to have a reason to get up and leave the house every day. And I need to meet some people. Our house is starting to get put together, we even have curtains hung now! We're still thinking this may be a house that we want to buy, so we're looking into all of our options there. I've realized that I'm NOT going to die of loneliness like I first thought. We've had dinner with a few of the people that Joe works with and more than anything, this whole experience is only going to be as good as I make it. So, we've gone out and bought some needed things for the house and I'm getting things in order. We also are ordering our crib so I can start getting that all ready too. We also checked out a church yesterday and liked it. I'm hoping that I can start to meet some people and do my own thing. It is true what they say though...there's no place like home!
