Baby BOY Evenden!

It's true, we had our ultrasound yesterday and we are indeed having a boy! I must say I was pretty shocked because I was SURE it was a girl....So, I took back the pink stuff I'd recently bought and bought some blue!

In other news, we are still pluggin' away. Joe has started work, no students yet but they have had orientation and teacher inservices. He will have students this coming Monday. As for me, I'm still trying to get through my last week of school and I've been kicking and screaming all the way through! I just want to be done....right now, not at the end of the week. BUT, if I can get all my work done today and tomorrow then I'm all done! It's looking like my mom and I will head out on Wednesday morning and hopefully drive straight though (15 hours) and get in Wednesday night. If not we'll take our time and make it there sometime Thursday. I'm finding that I kinda can't wait to get there at this point. I miss my husband!

Week in Review

The week has continued to be a whirlwind! We finally got totally out of our house here in Mt. Pleasant at 11:00pm on Monday night. What a way to spend your first anniversary! We stayed Monday and Tuesday night in a hotel in Mt. Pleasant while Joe finished up work and then headed to my parents house on Wednesday with the truck. Joe and his friend Rich (and the cats) headed out yesterday morning. They had a very long day of driving and some yucky storms in coming through the mountains in North Carolina. They left at 7:30 am and stopped around 10pm in North Carolina. Joe called every few hours to keep me updated and I heard a lot of meowing going on! They girls were not happy to be in the car or in a cage! They did settle down according to Joe and slept a good portion of the day. However, this morning he called to tell me that they were about 2 hours away from our new home and during the call realized that Grey, one of the cats had figured out how to open the cage and they were all running free! Needless to say, they were pulling over and I haven't heard anything since! This is all a totally new experience for Joe and I'm proud of him.

As I've said previously, the hardest part in all of this has been housing. We thought we had that cute little house below all set and then the guy backed out on us at the last minute. We seriously had less than 3 days and no place to live! Well, we resigned ourselves to pay a whole lot more to rent something, but the price just wasn't sitting with me and was keeping me up at night. So, we called this guy back and ended up getting the house below AGAIN. It was a very frustrating process. We found out that the house is in pre-foreclosure, which is where all the hassle was. We just found this out by chance so we are renting month to month for a lower rent that he originally had it listed for. We have decided that it's really expensive to rent there and we may want to consider buying in the near future and this house could be an option for us. So, like everything else that has happened in the last week, it's all fallen apart and then worked out for the better.

So, things should start to settle down soon. Joe will start work on Tuesday and my last day of work will be next friday. So until then I'm staying with my parents and just working and finishing up school. Not too bad. It's also nice to be at home with my parents and just chill with them for awhile. As always, thanks for checking in.

So, we are indeed moving to South Carolina. The last few days have been a complete whirlwind! We moved out of our place in Mt. Pleasant over the last 2 days. I always forget how horrible moving is, and every time I do it I say I never want to do it again!

So far everything that could go wrong in this process has. For instance, we just happened to call and confirm our uhaul to move our stuff out and across the country and they didn't have one for us! They worked it out and it was fine, but there have been a lot of issues like that. We almost didn't fit everything into the uhaul and had to make piles of things on the "cut" list. It all made it on though and we are packed a ready to go. We are staying in a hotel for 2 nights before Joe heads out. We (and his friend that is driving down with him) will head to my parents on Wednesday afternoon and hang out there and then they will leave first thing Thursday morning.

The hardest part in all of this has been finding a place to rent. Number 1, finding anything without actually being able to walk through it is scary, but also, being that we are living in a touristy area things have been very expensive. As of this morning (4 days until we need something) we still didn't have a place to live. We had one option but it was very small, and a decent drive to work for Joe, and we thought it was a bit pricey. Well, something finally came through and we snatched it up right away. We found a 3 bedroom house in a neighborhood only 10-15 min from Joe's work. The price was right and it's only a year old. It's still scary only having seen a few pictures but we'll take our chances.

So, little by little things are working themselves out. I vow to be a better blogger as time goes on and we have both moved to keep everyone better updated with us, our surroundings, Joe's job, and of course Baby Evenden! Thanks for tuning in. Oh, and here are a few pictures of the house...now you've seen what we've seen!

One Year

Today is our one year Anniversary. It seems hard to believe that it's been that long already! Just thought I'd add a few pictures of that day. It is also our good friends Sarah & Noah's (They are the ones at the bottom of the steps on each side) anniversary. They got married the same day we did, only one year earlier.

Well, the title says it all. Joe was offered a contract in Hardeeville, SC this afternoon and accepted. He is so excited, which is great to see. He's waited for 4 years to find a job, and he kept saying today "I'm finally a teacher." So, even though we are really sad to go seeing that smile and seeing how proud he is makes it worth it. We have so much to do in the next few days because Joe will be moving himself and all of our stuff down in less than a week! Luckily, we already have most of the house packed. I will stay in MI through at least the 21st of August because I need to finish up school and graduate, and my brother will be home from Colorado. I have to keep reminding myself to view this as an adventure for Joe and I, because it is sad to leave. I've never lived more than an hour away from my parents, and Mt. Pleasant has been my home since I was 6 years old. But I suppose with every new chapter you have to say goodbye to the last one.

New info

So this is just a little update, but Joe has a second interview today for a teaching position....in South Carolina! This is all moving really fast and has sort of taken us by surprise. He had the first phone interview yesterday and she seemed very interested, especially since he told them we are prepared to move at any time. This is good in their eyes because he would need to start 2 weeks from today! So it's all exciting and scarey and all of that all at once. So life still isn't slowing down in the Evenden house. We move out of our current place on Sunday and then have a few days in limbo before you move into the house in Mt. Pleasant, that is if he doesn't get the job. If he does get the job, all bets are off and he heads to SC and I stay here (who knows where!) and finish up school and head out at the end of August.

We had a great 4th of July weekend.   The 4th has always been one of my favorite holidays, and this year was pretty nice.  We spent the afternoon of the 4th and the morning of the 5th with Joe's mom at their cottage in Hillsdale.  It was perfect out, and we just hung out on the boat and stuff.  Then we came back to Lansing yesterday and spent the night there and laid in the pool all day today.  It was again another perfect day!  Some friends came and we just played in the pool and grilled out.  Bruiser even swam with us!  I didn't take a single picture over the weekend (my dad is leaving for Egypt tomorrow and he's borrowing our camera.  Plus, I'm lazy.), but this is a picture from a few weeks ago.

In other news, we still haven't found a place to live.  We are down to about the 2 1/2 week mark until we have to be out of our current place.  We do have some options and we won't be homeless but we're still looking.  We also still haven't found Joe a job.  We do have some prospects and are now looking in Florida, even though neither of us really want to live in FL.  But at this point a job is a job.

The whole pregnancy is going well.  The last month or so has been really hard as the morning (as well as noon and night) sickness has kicked in.  I'm also taking 15 credits this 7 weeks so I'm just really tired, sick, and therefore grouchy!  I know it will get better though.  We have an appointment on Friday and get to hear the heart beat and all that good stuff, which is all very exciting.
